General Requirements for University Programs

All students going to an Ontario university need 6 4U/M (Gr.12) credit courses for admission. Some Grade 12 courses require completion of a Grade 11 prerequisite course first (ex. ICS3U must be taken before ICS4U). You need to research the specific requirements of the university program you are interested in. The courses stated are typically required for admission to the specified program. Electives are courses you can choose.
SUGGESTED ELECTIVES – Please note that these are simply “suggestions” and are not required for the program of study. Suggestions may be of interest to you, but there are plenty of alternative courses that could be chosen. Please refer to the Course Calendar for all course options; including full course descriptions and important prerequisite information (ex. MHF4U must be taken before MCV4U).

indicates that it is the Grade 11 prerequisite course (required or recommended) for the Grade 12 course
Example: English ENG3U → English ENG4U
You must successfully complete Grade 11 English (ENG3U) before taking Grade 12 English (ENG4U).
 *   indicates that it is a Grade 12 course without any prerequisite requirements
Example: Media Studies EMS3O Media IDC4U *
Though Gr. 11 Media EMS3O is suggested, Gr.12 Media IDC4U (*) can be taken without any prerequisite.
